Air Vanuatu to retain Brisbane flight to Santo

29 JANUARY 2010 PORT VILA (Radio Vanuatu) --- Air Vanuatu has abandoned its decision to withdraw the direct Brisbane Santo flight following pressure from Luganville residents.

This was confirmed by the Airline’s Chairman and Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office, Simeon Athy.

Mr Athy says the airline’s board of directors have revoked its decision and will maintain the Brisbane flight to Pekoa airport.

The flight however will be subsidised through a grant from the government.

The announcement came as residents, including the business community in Luganville, were preparing for a march tomorrow to protest the board’s earlier decision to cancel the international flight….PNS (ENDS)
