New agreement to expand PNG telephone, internet links
21 JANUARY 2010 PORT MORESBY (RADIO AUSTRALIA) ---- Telikom Papua New Guinea and PNG Power have signed an agreement to bring fibre optic telephone and internet links to much of the rural population on the mainland.
The agreement will see PNG power offer Telikom its transmission towers to extend fibre optic connections between Lae and Madang and on to Enga, Morobe and the Southern Highlands provinces.
The $US12 million dollar Lae to Madang phase of the project is due to start in July and be completed by the end of the year.
Lawrence Solomon from PNG Power says the link will bring faster more reliable telephone and internet services.
Mr Solomon says improved communication will also help PNG Power solve its Lae power outage problems….PNS (ENDS) |
