Fiji signs Air service agreement with Solomon Islands
26 JANUARY 2010 SUVA (DINFO/PACNEWS) ---- A new air services agreement between Fiji and Solomon Islands was signed in Suva yesterday between Fiji’s foreign affairs secretary Solo Mara and his Solomon counterpart Senda Fifi’i.
Mr Mara noted that in the spirit of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) solidarity, the agreement effectively consolidates provisions of the Air Services Agreement signed by the Aeronautical Authorities in July 1990.
“Fiji is serious in becoming a leading civil aviation advocator in the Pacific region, particularly in the area of aviation safety and aviation security”.
Solomon Islands deputy secretary of foreign affairs, Senda Fifi’i said the MOU gives future flexibility to the airlines in managing capacity.
“It will also grant full passenger rights to the designated airlines of Fiji on the Port Vila to Honiara and the return leg under a mutually agreed and satisfactory code-sharing or other commercial arrangement agreed capacity between the designated airlines of Fiji and Solomon Islands on all services between Honiara, Port Vila and Nadi,” Mr Fifi’i said….PNS (ENDS) |
